2014 International Love and Peace Day International Forum on the Awakening of Conscience: Global relay to save the world

Dr. Bo-Ya Chang, new president of the Control Yuan, attended the event in person and urged everyone to be held accountable for his/her conscience, family, society, and country, so the society can make progress in an environment of love and peace.

A thought of greed has led to the ongoing “Gutter Oil” scandal, affecting over 1000 food producers across Taiwan.  Likewise, a single thought of kindness can also cause the butterfly effect. In late August this year, the movement of An Era of Conscience caused quite a sensation in the 65th Annual UN DPI/NGO Conference.  In the face of escalating geopolitical tensions and deteriorating living environments, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged civil society to continue to get actively involved in international affairs and solve the world’s most pressing problems together.  Taiwan especially hosted the “2014 International Forum on the Awakening of Conscience” on Sept. 15, the International Love and Peace Day, at 2:00 p.m. at National Taiwan Hospital International Conference Center, and leading experts in all circles, scholars, government officials, legislators, business owners, etc. were invited to attend the meeting and share their precious suggestions and words of conscience. Hundreds of representatives of various fields took part in the event and exerted their positive influences.  The forum, which aimed to awaken the conscience of the people of the world, was co-organized by 17 international organizations from 7 countries, and a series of events will be hosted in many other countries.  On the same day, 50,000 faculty and staff members and students at City Montessori School, India held an event to endorse the Declaration for the Movement of An Era of Conscience. The global efforts to save the world urgently require the awakening of the conscience in every one of us.

In the beginning of the forum, youth volunteers for the Movement of An Era of Conscience presented two energetic performances entitled “Power of Love” and “The Angel in Your Heart.” Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, president of the Federation of World Peace and Love, pointed out in his speech, “Reflecting upon the world’s problems, we found that they all resulted from people’s being deluded in the pursuit of external things.  A single thought of evil at first often jeopardizes our own safety and the safety of other world citizens in the end….Each person who acts according to his/her conscience in his/her respective position is a hero, a superman that helps improve the world’s destiny.”  He also remarked that the right path to reform for the United Nations and all countries is to use wisdom and the idea of love and peace to find the best, fastest, and the most beneficial and correct way to assist the United Nations and all countries with their progress.

Rene Wadlow, president of the Association of World Citizens (AWC) and representative to the UN, Geneva of the AWC, sent his message for the forum from France: Through the total awakening of conscience in everyone, we get to create a powerful wave of positive energy in the society.  This wave of conscience will bring new energy and new opportunities for actions.  Ms. Bo-Ya Chang, new president of the Control Yuan, attended the event in person and stated, “Peace and conscience are what everyone wholehearted wishes for.  If all people act according to their conscience, they will be able to fulfill their duty for themselves, their families, their society and nations.  That way, the “gutter oil” scandal, which affected each of us, tainted Taiwan’s reputation in the international community, and harmed the health of the people of Taiwan, would not have happened in the first place.”  She emphasized that everyone should be held accountable for his/her conscience, family, society, and country, so the society can make progress in an environment of love and peace.  Mr. Ming-Tang Chen, Deputy Minister of Justice, especially took time out of his busy schedule to attend the meeting in support of the movement of An Era of Conscience and endorse the declaration for the movement.

The Declaration for the Movement of An Era of Conscience
Create an era of love and peace globally

The effects of global endorsement for the movement of An Era of Conscience have entered Taiwan from the U.S. and the UN.  At the forum, a public announcement for the Declaration for the Movement of An Era of Conscience was held.  The declaration indicates, “Everyone is the leader of his/her conscience.  Conscience transcends the difference between ethnicities, nationalities and religious beliefs. You and I protect the conscience in our hearts, and together we can create an era of love and peace.” The whole declaration was read in turns by the honored guests including Attorney Yiu-Chen Su, honorary director of Chinese Association for Human Rights; Professor Chih-Lung Chen, president of Taiwan Association for the Study of Finance Criminal Law; Professor Ke-Chang Ge of law at National Taiwan University; Professor Chun-Jie Huang, member of President Office Human Rights Committee; Professor Ching-Hsiu Chen of law at Soochow University; Attorney Tien-Tsai Lin, president of Legal Assistance Foundation in Taipei, Kingman, and Matzu; Mei-Chen Sheng, former Control Yuan member; Fei-Lung Lee, secretary-general of AWC (Taiwan), NGO in consultative status with ECOSOC and associated with the UN DPI; and Professor Jing-Ching Wu of law at Aletheia University.  After the declaration was read, they all endorsed it on the spot.

At this time of chaos, the call for global awakening of conscience and handling world affairs with conscience has received enthusiastic responses and worldwide recognition. The awakening of conscience continues throughout the world

The 2014 International Forum on the Awakening of Conscience was centered on two issues: “Awakening to the rule of law: suggestions for administration” and “Awakening of conscience: ways to benefit the people.” The discussion about “Awakening to the rule of law: suggestions for administration” was moderated by Mr. Chung-Mo Cheng, former vice president of the Examination Yuan and Professor Chih-Lung Chen, president of Taiwan Association for the Study of Finance Criminal Law while the discussion about “Awakening of conscience: ways to benefit the people” was moderated by Attorney Yiu-Chen Su, honorary director of Chinese Association for Human Rights and Attorney Tien-Tsai Lin, president of Legal Assistance Foundation in Taipei, Kingman, and Matzu.  Experts and scholars specializing in different fields such as human rights, politics, justice, taxation, environmental sciences, education, religion, and philosophy, took turns presenting their ideas.  They intended to awaken people’s conscience, and hoped that those with foresight will exercise their positive influences to arouse those who fall behind, so that we can tackle the world’s problems at their roots.

The forum was the continuance of the power of conscience stirred up in the United Nations in August this year; UN ambassadors, such as H.E. Dr. Caleb Otto, Ambassador of Palau to the UN, H.E. Mr. Mamadou Tangara, Ambassador of the Gambia to the UN and Mr. Thierry Alia, Minister-Counselor, Permanent Mission of the Republic of Benin to UN also shared their words of conscience via videos.  Judy Lee, leader of the FOWPAL Youth International Volunteers, who just attended the 65th Annual UN DPI/NGO Conference, also presented a special report at the forum, sharing international community’s concern for this event.  The Declaration for the Movement of An Era of Conscience indicates that An Era of Conscience is the key to the world’s sustainable future.  People in all fields all hope that this force of awakening of conscience will keep going forward and create waves upon waves of positive energies in all parts of the world.  To celebrate the International Love and Peace Day (Sept. 15), a series of events have been held in Taiwan, the U.S., India and Russia, and the 14 branches of the Tai Ji Men Qigong Academy, one of the co-organizers of the forum, joined the grand event via the Internet.  Please visit the website of the movement of An Era of Conscience at www.aneoc.org to learn more about global updates about the movement and ways to support it.  We also welcome people in all circles to jointly endorse the Declaration for the Movement of An Era of Conscience.
